Dishes

Is it only me or does anyone else feel as though dishes are daunting? I wash them. They come back. I allow them to pile up. They don't wash themselves. Wherever I am in the house, if they are in the sink, they pester me until I can't ignore them. I find them so troublesome, in fact, that just writing about them invites me to snack. One friend suggested I put them on a schedule. Say, I commit to washing them once a day - after dinner... Good luck with that. I live with a seven-year-old. I'm all in after dinner. When we had a television, if I sat on the couch after dinner, the television would be watching me before the first commercial break. Okay, so maybe I've streamed some stuff since commercial television fell by the way of social media, but let's just say any 35-minute episode would still be rolling well after my eyes stopped blinking. Here's the thing:

The fact that I resist dishes as much as I do tells me something. Resistance usually carries a lesson or veils a truth better acknowledged. Besides, there are so many more things I could use the energy that I waste in resistance for. The trick is to get beyond the resistance. I've discovered that once I do, I've got 'found' energy much the way people sometimes talk about a dreaded appointment cancelled at the last minute calling it "found time". It's like something opens up, revealing new possibilities, new perspectives that don't drain or distract. We'll see where following the trail of resistance to dishes leads and if it's anywhere remotely interesting, I'll blog it out.

Between now and then, if you can use a dose of shared silence, stay tuned for the next Dear Younger Me: Love Letters on life-lessons, gratitude, and liberation write-in. Feel free to remind me to send a notification indicating if it'll be on Youtube, Twitter Spaces or at a cafe.

Dear Daughter,

There's so much I want to say, want you to know that you know, want you to experience and discover. There are so many stories I want to share, but how can I do that when I am hungry and so want a cup
